Huron-Manistee National Forests

Our interactions and activities in the Framework:

The Huron-Manistee National Forests (HMNF) are participating in the Northwoods Climate Change Response Framework to better respond to the impacts of climate change to forest ecosystems and associated resources across the landscape.  The HMNF is currently engaged in preparing the Ecosystem Vulnerability Assessment and Synthesis for northern Michigan forests.  The HMNF will also consider opportunities for adaptation demonstration projects that result from the Northwoods project, which may be tied to priorities such as Karner Blue Butterfly habitat management.

Our broader climate change activities and perspectives:

Considering the impacts of climate change falls within the broader mission of multiple use and ecosystem management for the HMNF.  In this regard, National Forests are guided by the US Forest Service Climate Change Roadmap and Scorecard.  The HMNF manages forests to provide clean water, clean air, resources for local and regional economies, recreational opportunities, and other important services, the ability to respond and adapt to climate change will be crucial in sustaining these functions over the long term.
