Hiawatha National Forest

Our interactions and activities in the Framework:

The Hiawatha National Forest is engaging in the Northwoods Climate Change Response Framework, primarily on the Ecosystem Vulnerability Assessment and Synthesis for northeastern Michigan forests.   This vulnerability assessment may lead to future activities, such as preparing a climate change adaptation strategy and providing further education opportunties for National Forest staff.

Our broader climate change activities and perspectives:

The Hiawatha National Forest is engaged in several climate change activities, as guided by the US Forest Service Climate Change Roadmap and Scorecard.  For example, the Hiawatha has initiated efforts on employee education, designated a climate change coordinator, and completed a carbon mitigation assessment.  Other efforts include improving the sustainability of National Forest operations, and continuing to engaged external partners on climate change issues.
